10 Things to Know About Christian Dior’s Spring 2017 Show

Maria Grazia Chiuri presented her first collection for Dior at Paris Fashion Week today. Inspired by the history of the house and the female form, Chiuri sent out a collection of corseted dresses, fencing-inspired suiting, and statement tees—but more on that in Sarah Mower’s forthcoming review. Here, get of-the-moment updates from inside Dior’s show at the Musée Rodin.

Dior staged its show in the Musée Rodin, trading the floral sets favored by Raf Simons for a simple one of unstained wooden benches and a wooden runway.

Longtime Dior supporters Natalia Vodianova, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Marion Cotillard, Diane Kruger, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Moss, and Milla Jovovich sat front row for Chiuri’s debut.

Dior face—and newly minted Paris Fashion Week designer—Rihanna arrived fashionably late in a plunging Dior dress embellished with petite beaded bees.

Ruth Bell, the British model famed for her buzzed hair, opened the show in a white fencing suit with a heart embroidered over the chest.

Logomania is back at Dior. Chiuri used ribbon printed with Christian Dior J’Adior as the straps for kitten heels, around waistbands, and as straps on bra tops. Bags featured the logos, too, in the form of gold lettering along clasps.

A T-shirt reading We Should All Be Feminists is already the most-talked-about piece of the collection. The show notes made a point of highlighting Chiuri’s feminism, but now all women—or those with a budget for Dior—can do the same loud and proud.

Much of the collection was grounded by low heels, sneakers, or high fencing boots. Consider the comfortable footwear a win for womanhood.

Denim made an appearance on the runway today, too, in the form of white jeans worn with a sheer black ruffled top.

Models wore their hair swept up into topknots with tiny braids running up the backs of their heads into the buns. Many of them also sported asymmetric earrings or a tiny black ribbon choker.

Chiuri took her bow to a standing ovation from the crowd.
